Melendez is a Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based sports director for WISN 12 News and an Emmy Award-winning sports journalist. He started working as a broadcaster at Fort Myers, Florida’s WINK-TV. From 2008 to 2010, he was the station’s weekend sports anchor and sports reporter, responsible for producing and editing the station’s daily reports. He also co-hosted a Fox Sports Radio conversation program. He covered the 2010 Pro Bowl, the 2009 BCS National Championship, the 2009 BCS Orange Bowl, the 2009 NBA Finals, and Super Bowl XLIII and XLIV while he was employed at WINK.

After that, Melendez started working for WISN 12 News in Milwaukee, where she anchored and reported on sports from 2010 to 2012. He covered collegiate and professional sports there. Super Bowl XLV, the 2011 and 2012 Big Ten Championships, and the 2011 and 2012 NLDS and NLCS were among his assignments.
