Bryan Sheffield Biography

Bryan Sheffield was born in 1978 and is the founder of Parsley Energy, a Permian Basin hydrocarbon exploration business that will be acquired by Pioneer Natural Resources in 2020. He owns 32 million shares in the corporation as of 2019.

Sheffield had developed the company sufficiently by early 2014, aided by rising pricing and breakthroughs in fracking, to stage an IPO. His 20% ownership almost made him a billionaire. Then came the oil crash, which reduced Parsley’s stock by more than half. Despite this, Parsley has thrived while dozens of other oil businesses have failed.

It turns out that Grandpa Joe’s wells were located in what is today considered to be the best spot in America to drill for oil. In 2015 and 2016, Parsley sold more than $1 billion in new stock, using the money to acquire 120,000 acres in the Permian Basin. Sheffield now owns roughly 15% of Parsley Energy.
