Joe Olmo Career

Olmo previously worked for WIFR as a Weekend Sports Anchor and MMJ. He adds that he knew he wanted to be active in athletics but that he would never be a professional athlete. Aside from that, he claims that he originally wanted to work in print journalism since he liked writing and also enjoyed acting and being on stage, so television seemed a natural fit. The Streamwood native is a Northern Illinois University graduate with degrees in broadcast journalism and minors in history and communications.

Olmo also credits his mother for shaping him into the guy he is today, and he considers his wife to be the most important person in his life. When he’s at work, he’s thinking about the amazing athletes in northwest Illinois. One of his favorite aspects of being a journalist is recounting athletes’ tales about how they got to where they are.

Olmo believes that while highlights are good, being able to move beyond the playing field and showcase a player in a unique way is even more satisfying. He claims that their community lives on local athletics, whether it’s Friday night football or a Wednesday on the volleyball court, and that high school athletes deserve to be recognized.

He enjoys playing video games when he is not at work. He can wiggle his ears, which is a startling characteristic about him. His favorite drink is Mountain Dew, and his favorite dinner entree is most likely a steak with grilled vegetables and roasted potatoes. His favorite dessert is any type of pie, and his favorite holiday is Thanksgiving since it allows him to engage with the three F’s (Football, Food, and Family).

Aside from that, because his birthday is in August, his favorite season is summer. Hockey, basketball, bowling, and football are his favorite sports. His favorite film, on the other side, is “The Dark Knight.” Dr. Seuss happens to be Olmo’s favorite author.

One of the most risky things he’s ever done was an expedition he and his wife took while on their honeymoon in Mexico. They went zip-lining across crocodile-infested infested lagoon, and he climbed the ruins, which became exceedingly steep.
