Tyler James Williams is an American actor who was born on October 9, 1992, in Westchester County, New York, and was raised in Yonkers. He started off as a young actor, appearing on Saturday Night Live, Little Bill, and Sesame Street. Williams gained notoriety after portraying Chris Rock on the UPN/CW sitcom Everybody Hates Chris (2005-09).

After that, he played musician Cyrus DeBarge in the Disney Channel feature Let It Shine (2012) and Noah in the AMC horror television series The Walking Dead (2014-15).

He now stars as Gregory Eddie in the ABC sitcom Abbott Elementary, for which he has won critical acclaim, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and two Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Williams has also appeared in movies like Detroit (2017) and The United States vs. Billie Holiday (2021).

Williams began his acting career when he was four years old. Later, he portrayed Bobby in Little Bill, briefly replacing Devon Malik Beckford in 2000, and from 2000 to 2005, he played himself (or an eponymous character, “Tyler”) on the PBS show Sesame Street.

He gained notoriety as the title character in the smash television series Everybody Hates Chris, which aired from September 2005 to May 2009. In 2007, he got a Young Artist Award for his efforts on the show.

He also appeared as a guest star on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Two for the Money, and Hi-Jinks.In late 2009, Williams appeared as True Jackson’s love interest Justin “Lil’ Shakespeare” Weber in the second season of True Jackson, VP.

Williams was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2017 after suffering from symptoms for three years. Since his diagnosis, he has received treatment, including numerous surgeries. He played Jake in The Wedding Year, a young romantic comedy film directed by Robert Luketic and starring Sarah Hyland, Jenna Dewan, Matt Shively, and Anna Camp, in 2019.

Williams portrayed Paul in The Argument in 2020. In 2021, he made his ABC Mockumentary sitcom Abbott Elementary debut as Gregory Eddie. For the role, Williams was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.
