Bobby Murphy Career
After finishing work on a failed business called Future Freshman, a website that offered guidance to high school students applying to schools, Murphy was hired by Spiegel. Picaboo, an app for messaging disappearing images, was co-founded by Murphy in 2011.
Later, Snapchat was chosen as the name. Murphy worked as a software engineer at Revel Systems (an iPad point-of-sale system for restaurants) for a year following his graduation from Stanford. He paid Snapchat’s server expenses out of his own pocket until the company could obtain venture capital investment.
Murphy oversaw the engineering and research teams at Snapchat. Murphy has also collaborated with the Snap Labs team at Snapchat, which in 2018 created the Spectacles camera spectacles.
