Grymes is a chief meteorologist with WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He joined the station in August 1996 as a meteorologist and was later elevated to Chief Meteorologist in May 2003. Jay works for both WAFB-TV and the LSU AgCenter, where he has been a climatologist since June 2001.
Jay began his professional career in 1986, as a climatologist at Louisiana State University. He worked at the station for more than sixteen years, from August 1986 until May 2003. Grymes has covered a wide range of weather news over the years, including hurricanes, ice storms, and tornadoes. He has almost 30 years of experience in climate and weather, both operationally and academically.
Grymes also worked as a consultant for the Louisiana Department of Justice in addition to his journalism career. Aside from this, he worked for the Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. In addition, Jay is a member of the National Weather Association, the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), and the EBR Mayor’s OHSEP.
