Lloyd Carney is a businessman who was born in the San Francisco Bay Area on February 13, 1962. He was once the CEO and a member of the board of directors of Brocade Communications Systems, however, he left both roles in 2017 when Broadcom Limited acquired Brocade.

Carney was raised in Kingston, Jamaica, and attended Wolmer’s Schools he has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in Applied Business Management from Cambridge, Massachusetts’ Lesley University.

Carney’s mother is from St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, and his father is from Havana, Cuba. Minister of Tourism visits UTech training facility

Edmund Bartlett, the minister of tourism, has expressed interest in continuing discussions with University of Technology (UTech) stakeholders about potential collaborations for the growth of tourism and hospitality.

On a recent visit to the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) training hotel, UTech Chancellor Lloyd Carney greeted the minister and his delegation and invited them to participate in partnership discussions for the establishment’s boutique training hotel, which was constructed in 2015 as part of the UTech Enhancement Project.

The management team of the institution is advocating for collaboration with the government so that the training facility can serve as a neighborhood hotel while still carrying out its current operations.

The ministry designated Bartlett’s travel as a fact-finding expedition under its Destination Assurance Programme, which aims to improve Jamaica’s tourism-related assets, in response to the chancellor’s request. A group from the tourism ministry, the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), and the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCO) joined the minister.

Carney began working after receiving his degree from Lesley University, first at Prime Computer and Data General, then at Proteon and Wellfleet Communications. Following the acquisition of Wellfleet by Synoptics, which led to the creation of Bay Networks, Carney was appointed president of the Core IP, Wireless Internet, and Enterprise Divisions by Nortel Networks in Paris, France.

In 2002, Carney accepted a position as chief operating officer of Juniper Networks, where he was in charge of the engineering, product management, and production departments. Carney was named chairman and chief executive officer of Micromuse Inc., a business and telecom network management firm, in 2003. Carney was the general manager of the Netcool Division at International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) when it acquired Micromuse in 2006.

Carney joined Xsigo Systems in 2008 and remained there as CEO and a member of the board of directors until Oracle Corporation acquired the company in July 2012.

Carney joined the board of directors of Brocade Communications Systems in January 2013 and was appointed CEO. Carney is also a member of the boards of directors of Technicolor and Cypress Semiconductor, where he chairs the audit and compensation committees respectively, and serves as head of the technology committee.

On June 11, 2015, Carney was elected as a new independent director to the board of directors of Visa Inc. He also joined the board’s audit and risk committee at that time.
